magenta smiles

Has anyone else noticed that as the years pass fewer and fewer people smile?

I am a smiler.

If I'm walking out of Wal-mart and I pass you, and our eyes meet, I'll smile.

But more and more I'm met by eyes shifting away, face unchanging.

I don't flash some weird, teethy, (potentially creepy) smile either - just what I hope is a pleasant little smile, as if to say "Hello. I, too, shop at Stuff-mart. We share a camaraderie of Mart shopping."

ANYway... today, as I was leaving the store with this plant in hand... I noticed every one returning my smiles.

Maybe they thought I bought it for a dying friend or a relative in the hospital so they flashed a sympathy smile - I don't know, and I don't care, cause from now on I'm carrying magenta flowers with me wherever I go.
